The Predator Movie Review – Collider @ TIFF 2018

Predator directed by Shane Black and starring Boyd Holbrook, Sterling K. Brown, Keegan-Michaal Key, Olivia Munn, Jacob Tremblay and Trevante Rhodes comes out on September 11, 2018. The film is a reboot of the 1987 original that starred Arnold Schwarzenegger and Carl Weathers and written by Shane Black. The film’s synopsis is as follows: From the outer reaches of space to the small-town streets of suburbia, the hunt comes home in Shane Black’s explosive reinvention of the Predator series. Now, the universe’s most lethal hunters are stronger, smarter and deadlier than ever before, having genetically upgraded themselves with DNA from other species. When a young boy accidentally triggers their return to Earth, only a ragtag crew of ex-soldiers and a disgruntled science teacher can prevent the end of the human race.

Perri Nemiroff got to see the film in advance of its world premiere at #TIFF18, and is here with her review. She breaks down the action, direction, acting and plotlines in the movie. She lets you know if this is a worthy reboot of the original franchise and if this is one that will satisfy fans of the franchise as well. 1. The trailers really showed The Predator vs. The Ultimate Predator with humans as Collateral Damage. If Kevin Peter Hall was alive today I think he would have loved all the action.

  2. Interesting review…I don’t know what to make of this movie. If the gore bothered colliders resident slasher lover I’m real curious as to how much is there

    1. +Christoph Davis Siskel and Ebert tackled movies without a set in bias. They dont fanboy over a franchise and give middling movies like fallen kingdom a 7 out of 10 because they like dinosaurs. No, they judged movies based on the elements I described above. How one judges an acting performance, a script, a set piece, a specific method of direction, plot/writing, etc can be up to interpretation but the point is a real critic scrutinizes a film by judging movies on these critical elements. Whether the aforementioned critics disagreed on a film or not Is not the point…its the point that they checked off all the nuances that a film needs before they give their final review.

I dont want to hear a critic say they hate horror films and to then go ahead and give all horror movies bad reviews. Dont review movies if you cant check your bias at the door. You’re obviously missing the point I’m trying to make. So I’m going to end this discussion now.

    2. +Christoph Davis if you liked white chicks then you may like this movie lol this movie is like white chicks vs Freddie Kruger vs the A team ,vs power rangers and iron man

    1. Also, you’ll hold onto those guns in your basement till you hear the pesky cops drive away. Ignore the FAKE NEWS, it’s all FAKE NEWS

  3. These are high budget 1950’s style action Sci-Fi movies for today’s audience. They’re not high art. They’re not supposed to have great dialogue or perfect plots. It’s for fun and enjoyment and cool effects and action, that’s it!!!

    1. +Mania Nostalgia isn’t a good argument since it somehow doesn’t apply to most polarizing films back in the day, which is the kind of reception Predator received. It wasn’t universally derided.

  4. P Nemi is the best. She has the greatest job in the world, and it never seems like an instant that she takes it for granted. Trust her on every evaluation, and this about what I expected from a Shane Black Predator film. Maybe I’ll end up surprised for liking it even more. Still excited

  5. So there is good violence and bloody gore scenes…. sounds good. The story is weak…. fine with me. I wasn’t expecting the shawshank redemption from a predator flick.

    1. Big difference between a bad story and one with gaping plot holes though, it’s never a good thing when you can’t tell wtf is going on because of them.

  6. Comment Section- I’m gonna watch this video to see her opinion
Also Comment Section- I don’t care about you opinion I’m gonna watch it anyway

  7. Sooo let me get this, she liked Fallen Kingdom but hated this ? And isn’t a Predator movie supposed to havr gore ? Or would she preffer a PG-13 Predator movie like The Meg which wasn’t even R rated.

    1. She hated the movie even though she gave it a 5.5/10? Give me a break. That rating means average and she said she was entertained by the movie.

  8. So many comments deflecting what perri has to say just because they want to watch the movie. no one is stopping you from going to watch the movie. But lets not pretend some of you didn’t come seeking validation. Perri didnt like it and thats ok, no need to be defensive and act like a pouty child.
